Dry, medium dry or sweet

The region of Alsace has the advantage of having the greatest
diversity of white wines in France. Going from Riesling, a very nervous varietal to Gewurztraminer, a sweeter varietal, and including Pinot Gris and Late Harvest… you’ll find
a palette of wines in our region capable of accompanying any dish, from starters to desserts and able to please all publics, from the most novice to the most well-informed…

So why do many wine enthusiasts from
France and abroad still not know the wines of Alsace well and consider them to be too
complex at times? The explanation is
nevertheless very simple: the region of Alsace is the only region in France not to have sugar content mentioned on its labels.
Consumers seeking dry wines (for example to accompany grilled fish) will perhaps choose a white Burgundy rather than a Riesling from Alsace (ideal with fish or seafood) because he
will not be sure of its sugar content… Can we fault him for that?

For 3 years now, at the Cave de Ribeauvillé, we have been applying European legislation by indicating clearly on our back labels whether the wine is dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet or sweet.
Do we sell less Gewurztraminer because it is a sweet wine?
On the contrary! Wine enthusiasts, charmed by the aromas and sweetness of this varietal, will know that they can serve it marvelously with a dessert but they’ll rather serve a Sylvaner with oysters or a Pinot Gris with white meat in sauce.Today consumers need information, transparency, frankness…
We have made that choice in Cave de  Ribeauvillé with pure wines, complete tasting notes and informative labels… And our
customers approve! So let’s serve our wines from Alsace with all the dishes and in all the countries in the world with courage and without beating around the bush; and we can continue to win over numerous adepts prepared to discover all the richness of our varietals and terroirs!
