ANDANTE: our bestseller

As often is the case, simple ideas are at the base of great success. Already more than 10 years ago, the Cave de Ribeauvillé decided to blend the 2 most aromatic grape varietals in Alsace: Gewurztraminer and Muscat. Indeed, single varietals is the rule in Alsace and there is no question about transgressing that. However, these 2 varietals offer surprisingly complementary profiles: Muscat is dry and lively, bringing a raciness that provides freshness and supports the aromas. Gewurztraminer, heavy and powerful, provides all the structure with a marvelous aromatic palette.

The marriage was meant to be. Yet a name still had to be found. It would be ‘Andante’, borrowed from an Italian word that signifies “moderate tempo” in music. Allegro, Larghetto, Adagio will be the other 3 wines that are meant to complete this family to give birth to a 4 seasons presentations box of the different tempos of this famous music by Vivaldi.

Rapidly, Andante became a favorite wine served in restaurants: fresh and aromatic, with great body; it is a magnificent opener for a meal and can also finish it just as well!

Its success has quickly spread beyond French borders and today, it’s our cellar’s most famous wine served by the glass in a number of countries the world over.
In the United States, it is selected amongst the best buys in the Wine Spectator: “rich and round, offering hints of flowers, grapefruit and peach. Well structured with a great finish.”

In Canada, it has been selected by the Société des Alcools of Quebec to be present in all the stores. In “Pure” Magazine: “This blend of 2 traditional varietals from Alsace, Gewurztraminer and Muscat, to be enjoyed chilled, is perfect for an aperitif. With its fruity bouquet that immediately reveals its origin and its balanced flavors, it accompanies dishes of fowl and Asian cuisine well. Delicious with sushi or spicier dishes!”

In China, Andante is very quickly becoming the favorite wine of the
Chinese thanks to its charming aromas and full and round body that
suit the diversity of Asian cuisine marvelously.

In France and in most European countries, Andante has become inescapable on restaurant tables.
