The Kirchberg in Ribeauvillé, classified as a Grand Cru since 1975, is unanimously recognised for the quality of its wines. The winegrowers cultivate their know-how and experience in the service of this exceptional terroir, to produce wines of great finesse and incomparable aromatic purity.

History and origin
In 1983, Ribeauvillé’s Grand Cru Kirchberg was one of 24 lieux-dits selected to become the geographical denominations of the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. It was classified Grand Cru by decree in 1975.
The Kirchberg, literally the “mountain of churches”, takes its name from the presence of three churches at its foot in the old town of Ribeauvillé: the church of the Convent of Divine Providence, the Catholic church and the Protestant temple.
The present grape varieties
Around the town of Ribeauvillé, one grape variety is king: Riesling. The latter is particularly well suited to the terroir of Ribeauvillé’s Grand Cru Kirchberg, producing great wines for laying down with a floral, discreetly fruity bouquet.
Muscat, a highly aromatic grape variety, has a natural place here. More recently, Pinot Gris has appeared in the north of the Grand Cru. Gewurztraminer, which has long been present in Alsace, is very rarely planted.
