A RICH WEBSITE
Located in the commune of Bergheim, this Grand Cru produces wines of fine structure, refreshed by a vigorous acidity that integrates the natural generosity of this Grand Cru.
Situated in the grounds of the medieval town of Bergheim, the vineyard stretches along the southern face of the Grasberg, a steep, south-facing hill. It has a warm, moderate microclimate, with very stable temperatures and humidity.
Nestling in the heart of the Ribeauvillé geological region, where layers of limestone and marl from the Middle and Lower Jurassic are superimposed, this vineyard is characterised by shallow, rocky, red marl-limestone soils rich in fossils.
This perfect marriage of powerful, robust body and fine, nuanced aromatic expression makes the Altenberg Grands Crus exceptional gastronomic wines par excellence.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN
The Altenberg, a source of pride for the winegrowers of Bergheim, has a centuries-old reputation for its prestigious wines, dating back as far as the 12th century. In 1983, this Grand Cru was one of 24 lieux-dits selected to become the geographical denominations of the Alsace Grand Cru appellation.
The word Altenberg comes from the German Alten, meaning “old”, and Berg, meaning “height”. Altenberg can therefore be translated as “the old hill”.
A UNIQUE STYLE
Because of its unity and typicality, the vineyard favours Gewurztraminer and Riesling.
The wines of the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim are all-rounders: they go well with powerful, firm-textured dishes such as duck in orange sauce, veal in sauce (marengo, for example), mushroom crust, or smoked fish terrines. Fruit-based desserts are also recommended with this Grand Cru.
